I guess it's time for me to stop being shy.
Almost exactly a year ago, a friend of mine dragged me out of the house to try a new thing - ballroom dancing! We came to Starlite on a Friday night, and after the very first dance, I was completely hooked! I haven't stopped since. Now, I do all of the dances Starlite teaches, plus vintage ballroom, social dance and lindy hop. Talk about creating a monster! Despite the fact that I've only been dancing a year, everyone at Starlite is kind and patient with me, and I have really enjoyed both the classes and the dance parties. If you see me on the dance floor, please say Hi! I'm very shy but quite nice, and eager to dance with just about anyone. And thanks to all of you for building such a fantastic dance community! |

Vintage ballroom, social dance, and lindy hop?! I can't believe we haven't met! Are you from the new generation of dancers from Richard Power's social dance classes at Stanford? I see you around all the time, but we haven't met because I'm shy. I'll come introduce myself next time I see you. I have taken several of Richard's classes up at Stanford, but I got my start at Starlite and branched out from there. You'll find me at PEERS events, Gaskells, Starlite, and working the crowd in Fezziwig's at the Dickens Christmas Faire. |

As a student host on Friday nights for the beginner party I got to dance with "Krys" and you danced very well. After the beginner party was over the regular Friday night party began and I asked her to dance the two step with me. I kept it simple and she caught on just fine and it was an enjoyable dance. Glad you are on the forum and looking forward to dancing with you on future Friday nights when I am hosting. I am also shy about asking women to dance and the friendly atmosphere of the Starlite helps tremendously. |

Number of downloads: 50I started ballroom dancing when I was given an offer, a package deal and opportunity also to be the assistant of the instructor part time for one year, and this is back in New York when I used to live there in Brooklyn. I've been doing ballroom dancing since then for the past eight years. Active for the first three consecutive years, and begun to slow down to concentrate to my studies which is my priority first. I've moved here at Cali last 2002. When I moved at San Jose, I have enrolled a few classes with Ms Vera Quijano (very good teacher) at Canada College in Redwood City to learn Salsa. From basic, she have switched me to intermediate maybe because of my ballroom background. Thereafter, I've been checking places around like: Lucky Chances, Miami Club, and of course Starlite. I've been visiting Starlite every now and then since 2003 (a few times a year), and I never see a place like this before in my entire years on and off experience in ballroom. I've been around in different ballroom places including New York, 5 star Hotels (sheraton, hilton, etc.), Clubs, but Starlite so far is the best place that I have ever been. What makes this place so special is because of the "ambience" of the place, and the people are very friendly and professionals as well. I wish I could be part of this place even to work as part time helper or assistant. I would definitely recommend this place to others. |
